Voting should be easy, fun and delicious.
We aim to make voting accessible to all metro-Atlantans through community and food-centric outreach methods. Whether you’ve decided to vote by mail or vote in-person, we’ve compiled everything that you need to vote with confidence. Click on the button below to get started.
Who we are
The Georgia 55 Project is a local coalition of millennials working to reduce voter suppression in Atlanta and the surrounding areas by encouraging voter registration, voting early or absentee and making voting participation fun. Black and minority communities deserve to have their voices heard and their ballots counted. The Georgia 55 Project aims to resist the system of oppression in our local government by bringing those voices to the ballot boxes.
Our introduction to grassroots organizing began in 2018 with an effort to feed and hydrate voters in long lines. This effort continued and expanded during the primary election in June 2020 with #ProtestPizzaATL. Now, we aim to assist voters at all phases of the registration and election process through community and food-centric outreach methods, from providing absentee applications in food bank boxes to serving pizza to voters on election day.
What we do
Educate and inform
Voting in Georgia is complicated — whether it’s about absentee ballot applications, signature-matching laws, the consolidation of voting precincts, there’s always something new to worry about as both an unregistered and registered voter. With the creation of our voter guides and resources, we aim to distill and simplify the slew of government websites and misinformation into clear and concise action items that anyone can understand.
Remove barriers and build partnerships
The voting game is stacked against Black and low-income communities in Atlanta — from requiring a printer, paid postage and a reliable form of transportation, to architecting a nightmare scenario where people are waiting up to eight hours to vote — not to mention the ongoing threat of COVID-19. At Georgia 55, we work tirelessly to break down these barriers to make it easier for historically disenfranchised communities to vote safely and securely. By focusing on building partnerships with local neighborhood organizations and minority-owned restaurants in the heart of these communities, we can more effectively mobilize volunteers to help folks register, provide them with all the materials to vote absentee, and encourage early voting when in-person voting is necessary.
Make voting fun and delicious
Our aim is to make voting easy, fun and delicious. We’ll do this by operating in largely food-centered lanes — think awareness signage in restaurants, voter registration at farmers’ markets, absentee ballot applications and paid postage in food bank boxes. We'll also pay tribute to our roots with a massive line-warming effort on Election Day (January 5) and during busy early voting days to keep lines entertained and hydrated.
